New command: Encouraging a restful sleep at night.

January 11, 2009

As I myself start to think about going to bed, I added a new command to the list of what TweetByMail can do with sending your twitter stream to your mobile phone or email. I already had the basic on and off commands, but here’s one especially for those people who are forgetful like me.

sleep!

When you want to pause the flow of incoming tweets for the night (or for any reason) you can send the command to sleep for a certain number of hours. After the specified time, you will continue getting new tweet updates from that moment on.

So, it’s time for bed… just send in sleep 8 and you’re all set for a restful night, but still guaranteed a twitteriffic morning.

If you’re sitting down for a movie, you can text sleep 3, and you should be set until after the credits roll. (Director’s cut? Try sleep 4 to play it safe.)

At any time during this rest period, you can reactivate the updates using on or even amend the time with a new sleep command. (like a snooze button!)

Also, to make sure nobody gets mixed up by the semantics of it all, I added wake as a synonym for the on command. Either will reactivate your incoming twitter stream.
